As we traveled through the "red circle" (essentially ground zero for Mt. Vesuvius) we couldn't help but wonder at the smoke streaming up from fissures in the ground around the mountain.  It's a very densely populated area and its just a matter of time before there is a far more tragic version of Pompeii. Still...the amount of information archaeologists have gotten from unearthing the ash covered city is a treasure.

We enjoyed a wonderful tour with Paola today and saw many of the Sicilian places used in The Godfather trilogy. With Tashi humming the iconic song from the movie it was as if we'd stepped into the film... and of course he quoted a lot of the script too.

Today we are enjoying the sights of medieval Kotor in Montenegro.

We did finally agree that the ceremony would be held outside and the weather agreed with us. Being married with the beautiful blue Mediterranean waters in the background was the most beautiful setting we could hope for. We wish that each of you could have been with us on our special day. Please forgive us for making such hasty arrangements (not pregnant 🙂).

...breath taking.

We've seen photos and read the history, but nothing will prepare one for the awesome sight of the architectural monuments Greece has to offer.  After so rudely waking me up at 6am to enjoy the breakfast offered by the hotel, we flagged a cab to get to the Acropolis... walking there through the maze of Athens was more than enough yesterday. Then we saw it.  We entered through the Propylaea as was intended and the experience is difficult to describe. You wind through the path built for visitors instead of going straight in, but the immensity of the columns can still be felt on each side as you approach the entrance.  Then the top of the mountain opens before you, and you're presented with the awesome majesty of the Parthenon and Erechtheion.  One can't help but think of how much more impressive the structures would have been in the Golden Age of Greece.  Bucket list-- check!

Wow!  Only four days to go and we are in Athens, Greece!  How crazy is that?!  With a high of 100 degrees and 34% humidity there is no such thing as dry clothing.  Of course that wasn't going to stop us from exploring the classical architecture we've dreamed of seeing. Ok... we just saw it from afar today... it was hot...

For our true fans, we'll keep you up to date on our blog (as long as Wifi is with us).  It's the next best thing to being there!
